Library class will help job seekers prepare resumes, research companies

Finding a job in a tough economy calls for thorough information about where to look and how to make yourself stand out from a crowd of competing candidates. Patrons will learn about research databases to help them in their search. At 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 25 Hudson Library & Historical Society will help job seekers accomplish both goals.

Participants will learn about Reference USA, a subscription database available through the library that provides a directory of 12 million U.S. and Canadian businesses. Users can search for prospective employers by SIC code (type of business), sales volume, number of employees and geographic location.

How to sell yourself and your qualifications will be covered during the second part of the class. Participants will learn how to use the Job & Career Accelerator – available to library patrons at home and in the library – to facilitate the entire job-search process. The Job Accelerator offers a multitude of useful tools, including: detailed information about more than 1,000 different occupations; interest and skill assessments; more than 5 million up-to-date local and national job postings; templates for creating professional-looking resumes and cover letters, and interviewing advice.  Other databases included in each of the sessions include Business Source Premier and First Research.
